Al Franken is Minnesota’s newest Senator. The Minnesota Supreme Court reject incumbent Norm Coleman’s challenge to the vote count and declared Al Franken the winner. This mean’s it’s time to get started.

Minnesota is the 21st most populous state with one of the largest state legislatures. There is one district for each six thousand citizens. There is a senator for each district and 2 representatives. This large body is expensive and difficult to control. This year-after-year inability to actually deal with the spending problem is the reason I say throw out the entire state legislature.

James Oberstar claims to be from Minnesota, but has served in as a representative for 34 years, living more in Washington DC than in his home state. Yet, for some reason, he keeps getting re-elected. The northern Minnesota area he represents has suffered economically and it doesn’t appear that his representation has improved its fortunes.
