South Carolina Congressman John Spratt, Jr.
We’ll give you 1 guess as to what John Spratt’s profession is…
This Blue Dog Democrat is fairly popular in his 5th district. He’s more conservative than most Democrats. We’d recommend the Republicans court him to switch sides, but that would be wrong. Wrong because he’s served 14 terms. It’s time for him to let someone else represent the 5th district.
Just to reiterate: TfTL doesn’t think that most members of congress are bad people. Many serve well and honorably. These are good men and women. What we object to is the idea that being an elected official is a career choice. Particularly for federal offices (and we’ll include state office). Holding federal office for more than a term or two means you lose touch with your district. You really don’t live in your district-you live in Washington. You forget your profession. And, the culture creates a sense of self importance.
John Spratt is a fine man… a great representative. But that’s not his problem. His problem is 14 terms.
Do Not Re-Elect Representative John Spratt.
