Richard “Dick” Shelby

Alabama Senator Richard Shelby
Dick Shelby was the first democrat to win the Alabama senate seat since Reconstruction. In 1994 he switched sides to become a republican. Republicans view him as strong on defense but weak on the environment (from a republican perspective). Being relatively independent minded he’s politically “all over the map.”
The one thing, though is that he’s spent over 22 years in the Senate. Before that his paycheck came from taxpayers. Most his adult life has been paid for by you and me. Isn’t it time he either retire (we’re paying for it anyway) or he gets a job (not lobbying) in the private sector?
