With the 2010 elections being just about a year away (check the countdown clock on the right sidebar) it’s somewhat hard to get excited. To help with some motivation, today’s task is to learn to argue the case for term limits.

The health care town hall meetings have provided lots of fodder for those who are concerned about their representatives. New York Congressman Eric Massa has added to the pile with his on camera admission that he would vote against the interests of the voters in his district.

Your last task was to write a letter. Today’s task is to find out when your representative is going to have office hours, a town hall meeting, or some other public appearance. Then show up. Hopefully, you’ll already have written a letter to reinforce your opinion.

Nothing gets up the ire of a congressman more than being challenged on their positions. I’ve personally seen this when I’ve sent letters to my representatives. Watch this video of Congressman David Scott not being able to deal with being challenged.

A Google search of the health care protests, along with a review of what the Democrats have been saying about the protesters show the real motives of the party in power. They don’t care what we think. They want to increase their power and control.

Last summer if you would have told people that the government would own GM and some banks, would be taking over the health care system and attempting to further control our economy through the energy markets they would have looked at you like you were insane. What a difference a few months makes. Your term limit task this week is to write your representative and senators. Let them know your thoughts about the upcoming health care and energy legislation.
A Modest Proposal

Health care is in the news. It can’t help but be. President Obama has pledged to talk about it until congress does something. We’re in a crisis, we’re told. Something has to be done now. For the moment, let’s accept the false premise the federal government should do anything about health care. For the moment, let’s agree that something must be done.

Roland Burris

July 13, 2009 – UPDATE: Roland Burris has announced he will not run for reelection. This is great news! Hopefully, he’ll go back to private life and find success there… Roland Burris wasn’t elected, so technically, he can’t be reelected to his Illinois senate seat. He was appointed by impeached Rod Blogovich to fill President Barack Obama’s vacant seat.

In order for us to have any success at implementing voter based term limits (that is we vote out incumbents) it is important that our efforts begin early. It starts with individuals who want to really make a difference. Real political change comes when we decide to act. Task #6: Spread the Word!
